Manteno Community Unit School District 5 Board of Education Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment Committee met May 10.
Here is the minutes provided by the Board:
1) Introductions- No new attendees
2) Public Library Update
a. Friends of the Manteno Public Library are sponsoring a Dollars for Dogs day on Saturday, May 19th from 11 am-2 pm.
b. Friends of the Manteno Public Library and the Air Force Association’s Aerospace Educator are presenting: Estes Alpha Model Rocket Workshop.
c. The library will be closed for Memorial Day on Monday May 28th.
d. Summer reading registration begins on Monday, may 21st. Fliers will be coming to the schools in the next few weeks.
e. The library has been awarded the Community Works Grant. Full Steam Ahead will be launched in the fall of 2018.
3) Building and Community Updates
a. Team leaders focused on what went well. Some topics from the Elementary School included; implementation of Wilson, becoming more comfortable with NGSS, and working collaboratively as a team. Some topics from the Middle School included; a focus on careers, new staff members and new classes, and working as teams. Some topics from the High School included; embracing change and the transition to traditional schedule.
4) Teachers Change Lives 24/7
a. Be Unforgettable
b. Teachers have the unique opportunity to “change lives 24/7.” Team leaders were challenged to balance work and fun as they change lives.
5) Reflection of 2017-18 Goals
a. Team leaders were given a copy of the goals they set for this year.
b. Team leaders were asked to reflect on these goals and get the reflections to Cathy Creek prior to the end of the year.
6) Goal Setting for 2018-19
a. Team leaders were given a goal setting worksheet.
b. Returning Team leaders were asked to create goals for the 2018-2019 school year.
7) Plans for final SIP Day (6/1) and Institute Day (6/4)
a. On June 1st, each building will have: a 45 minute lunch, Assessment Work Time, and an Evaluation Session. The Elementary School will have a Eureka Math Presentation. The High School and Middle School will have Team Leader Activities.
b. On June 4th, agenda items should include: Team Activities (2 hours and 15 minutes), End of Year Activities (2 hours and 15 minutes), a 45 minute lunch, 15 minutes of travel time, and Recognitions and Retirements at 1:30.
8) Other
a. Team leaders should consider which subscriptions should be renewed and which subscriptions should be cancelled.
b. Team leader evaluations will be in mailboxes
c. Summer curriculum work approvals will be shared next week.
d. The district is looking to continue Title II Work Days
e. The test new state assessment, formerly PARCC, is called the Illinois Assessment of Readiness.
