City of Kankakee issued the following announcement on Dec. 13.

Chasity Wells-Armstrong, Mayor of the City of Kankakee, Illinois has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2019 Community and Economic Development (CED) federal advocacy committee. This committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC’s federal policy positions on issues involving housing, community and economic development, land use, recreation and parks, historic preservation and international competitiveness. NLC President Karen Freeman-Wilson, Mayor of Gary, Indiana, announced Wells-Armstrong’s appointment.

“I am honored to be named to the NLC’s Community and Economic Development federal advocacy committee”, Wells-Armstrong said. “It has an important role to play in developing the NLC’s positions on critical municipal issues. The experience will support the Kankakee Forward agenda as we work toward implementation of some of our important revitalization projects such as the Riverfront Master Plan, affordable housing projects, strengthening our neighborhoods and much more."

“Our federal advocacy committees help ensure that policymakers in Washington know what is happening on the ground in our communities – and what is needed from our federal partners,” said Karen Freeman-Wilson, mayor of Gary, Indiana, and president of the National League of Cities (NLC). “I am proud to have Chasity Wells-Armstrong join NLC's Community and Economic Development Committee on behalf of her residents. Together with a team of local leaders from around the country, we will work to solve the most pressing challenges facing our communities.”

This year’s committee leadership will consist of council members Chair Laurie-Anne Sayles (Gaithersburg, MD), Vice Chair Kristopher Dahir, (Sparks, NV), and Vice Chair Kevin Thompson (Mesa, AZ).
