City of Kankakee issued the following announcement on Jan. 4.

The City of Kankakee, in partnership with the Kankakee Public Library, is hosting the 2019 African American Civic Leaders’ Scholarship event at the Kankakee Public Library, 201 E. Merchant Street in Kankakee. Scholarships are awarded to help current college students and graduating high school seniors. The 2019 African American Civic Leaders’ Scholarship awards these scholarships based on positive leadership and character exhibited in school and community activities. Beginning January 4, 2019 through March 15, 2019, applications will be available at the Kankakee schools and fillable applications will be accessible via the City’s website (citykankakee-il.gov). All applications are due by March 22, 2019 to your high school’s guidance counselor; KCC students will submit applications to the KCC Foundation Office (D211) at Kankakee Community College. The 2019 African American Civic Leaders’ Scholarship committee will select the recipients of the scholarships, and will notify them no later than April 5, 2019. Recipients are invited to attend the 2019 African American Civic Leaders’ Scholarship event at the Kankakee Public Library on April 18, 2019 to receive the scholarship.
