Kankakee County Sheriff issued the following announcement on Feb. 5.
The Kankakee County Highway Department has temporarily closed River Road (south of Kankakee) due to rising river levels resulting from an ice jam. River Road has been closed from 4000 South Road (Airport Road) to 7500 South Road. Please find an alternate route.
We remind area motorists to be extremely cautious when traveling, predominately around the Kankakee River and area creeks/waterways. If you come across a flooded roadway, please #TurnAroundDontDrown
