Kankakee School District 111 issued the following announcement on Feb. 24.
Montessori 8th grader David Love competed in the IESA State Chess Finals on February 22nd and 23rd at the Peoria Civic Center. He earned 2nd Runner-Up in the 8th grade individual division of the state chess finals.
He won 5 rounds, lost 1 round, and had a draw for 1 round. This gave him 5.5 points out of 7 for the weekend. He was in the top 15 players out of 250 8th graders competing!
