ILLINOIS' 79TH STATE HOUSE DISTRICT: Rep Parkhurst Hosting Free Workshop to Help with US Citizenship Application

Parkhurst

Illinois' 79th State House District issued the following announcement on Feb. 15.

State Representative Lindsay Parkhurst (R - Kankakee) is hosting the third workshop to help legal U.S. immigrants navigate the complicated application process. The workshop is being held in conjunction with the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights and its partners. Volunteers from various local organizations will be on hand to help assist applicants in completing the necessary forms and documents to become a U.S. Citizen. The workshop will be held at Lisieux Pastoral Center in Kankakee on Saturday, March 9th beginning at 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM.

"Becoming a U.S. Citizen is a great honor, but it can be confusing to get there. In the two years I have done this event, we have been able to help several immigrants and their families navigate the process with more people turning out than the last," Rep. Parkhurst said. “If you or someone you know has been thinking about becoming a citizen of the United States, we want to help make the process easier for you.”

To be eligible for citizenship you must be a legal permanent resident of the United States for at least 5 years, or if married to a U.S. citizen, for 3 years. Applicants are advised to bring required documents with them to the workshop. These items are listed at Representative Parkhurst’s website or on the flier located at a number of local businesses and organizations.
