City of Momence City Council met July 1.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The City Council Meeting of the City of Momence was held in the Council Chambers at 29 N. Dixie Highway, Momence. Mayor Chuck Steele called the meeting to order.

ROLL CALL

Roll was called by the Clerk with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope.

APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES

Alderman Cook made a motion to approve the minutes of the June 17, 2019 council meeting.

Alderman Rehmer seconded the motion with Aldermen Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes. Alderman Salomone passed.

APPROVAL OF THE BILLS

The bills were discussed at tonight's Budget and Finance Committee Meeting.

Alderman Salomone made a motion to approve the bills for payment with the addition of 2 bills, Republic 19439.30 and Leaf 145.09. Alderman Cope seconded the motion with Aldermen

Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

CITZEN FORUM – Steve Lund - Police activities – refused to give his SSN to the officer. After refusing, he accused Steve Lund of having a knife in his car. Police officer pulled a gun, threaten to tow his car. Steve is confused on the reasoning of the some of the questions asked. He did speak to the Chief, Chief indicated that they request extra info due to false information given at times.

Larry Crouch – Thank you to the City for hosting Heritage Days. 1100 in attendance.

Chris Doud – Requesting closure of Maple/Ash Street for the Jazz Festival, due to no carts are allowed on the island.

July 13, 12 – 7 PM. Alderman Cope made a motion to close the road for Jazz Festival, Alderman Cook seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

OLD BUSINESS –

ALDERMANIC REPORTS Alderman Salomone – BF July 15, 7:15 PM. Appropriation public hearing held tonight; vote will be at the next council meeting. Total appropriation $7,575,300.00, a $133,000.00 increase over last year.

Alderman Metz commended the Streets/Alley on a job well done for work done after the storm.

Alderman Rehmer requested a Police Committee meeting on July 15, 7:00 PM. Residence on Southside without a sidewalk that citizens are concerned with. Children are walking in the street to get to the bus stop due to this issue. There is an ordinance in place for sidewalks to be constructed.

Recommendation was given to approach the homeowner. Sidewalks are to be installed during new construction.

Alderman Cope requested an Ordinance meeting on August 5, 7 PM

MAYORAL REPORT

1. July 4th Celebration Mayor would like to push the celebration. There are a few citizens to set up concessions.

2. ComED – Mayor has been with them all day; more crews were headed to town trying to get everyone back on with power. Cooling bus and charging bus were brought in to aid citizens. Streets/Alley were busy with moving trees, big thank you to them.

Mayor requesting executive session to discuss litigation – not to come out to do business, Alderman Cook made motion to approve, Alderman Metz seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

Adjourned to executive session 8:03 PM

Returned from executive session 8:17 PM. Alderman Cook made motion to adjourn, Alderman Salomone seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.
