Village of Manteno Committee of the Whole Public Safety Committee met September 11.

Trustee Dole called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m.
A motion was made by Mayor Nugent, seconded by Trustee Dole, to approve the minutes of the August 14, 2019 as presented; motion carried by voice vote. All ayes, no nays.
Trustee Dole suspended the Public Safety Committee meeting to allow the Finance Committee meeting to open and hear their first item on the agenda – Dr. Karl Keller and his TIF Façade request. After his presentation, the Public Safety Committee meeting was reopened at 7:07 a.m.

Items for Discussion:
• Cameras at Division & Main Street – Chief Swinford spoke to Carlile Architects about placing cameras on their building a 5 S. Main Street. They will provide the internet access and electricity. The Police Department will have full access to the cameras. The approximate cost is $2,400. Mr. LaRocque will prepare an agreement for the cameras.
• LPR Camera Update – Chief Swinford stated that these cameras at the I-57 overpass have had reading issues at night. Chief Swinford attended a seminar where he was speaking to a vendor concerning the cameras. The village does not have LPR cameras, but we have good cameras that use LPR software. The vendor stated that LPR cameras will catch 99% of all vehicles going across the overpass. The vendor is offering a free trial to use an LPR camera. The cost for an LPR camera is $6,000.
• Monthly Stats– Chief Swinford presented the monthly stats that include monthly squad car mileage, significant incidents/events and monthly activity report for August 2019.
• Promotional Testing – Nine officers have tested for the supervisor promotional list. There are no openings. This just creates the list.
• Block Party Request – The residents along White Tail Drive are requesting to have a block party on September 14th. The approval was given to the residents to hold their party.
• Misc.: Chief Swinford stated that there is a lengthy list of individuals that have been banned from the Square on Second. Some of those individuals ride their bikes around the Square on the alleys and on Walnut Street. Mr. LaRocque announced that during Oktoberfest the jumping pillow will be deflated and covered.
• Sgt. Berns is putting together a peer support for families meeting on September 12th
