RIVERSIDE HEALTH CARE: New interventional suites treat a wide range of heart and vascular conditions

Healthnews

Riverside Health Care issued the following announcement on Oct. 30.

Riverside Healthcare unveiled four new state-of-the-art interventional suites Tuesday, making Riverside the first healthcare system in Illinois to introduce this advanced technology. The suites are equipped with the latest innovations for treatments in interventional cardiology, interventional radiology and electrophysiology, allowing Riverside's team to perform even more complex procedures.

Phil Kambic, President & CEO"We are excited to bring this advanced technology to Riverside," said Phil Kambic, President and CEO of Riverside Healthcare. "As we celebrate 55 years of service this reinforces our commitment to caring for the needs of our patients right here in the community."

This new technology will enable Riverside to care for over 5,500 patients each year in the new interventional suites. The suites will be fully operational at the end of November and can treat a wide range of conditions including:

Coronary artery disease

Arrhythmias

Carotid artery disease

Atrial fibrillation

Heart valve disease

Liver tumors

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)

Uterine fibroids

These catheter-based procedures may reduce the risks and recovery time found in traditional surgical approaches. This can result in shorter hospital stays, reduced pain and less visible scarring.

Specifically, Riverside's suites are equipped with the Azurion image guided therapy system from Philips Healthcare. Azurion, a fully digital system, enables physicians and care teams to capture and view detailed images resulting in even faster diagnosis and treatment.

Vikas Patel, MD"In instances where seconds count, we're able to provide our patients with the best treatment available," said Vikas Patel, MD, Interventional Cardiologist and Medical Director of Cardiac Catherization at Riverside. "This is the next step forward in interventional procedures, and we look forward to continuing to offer the most advanced care for our patients."

Arun Jagannathan, MD

"These new suites feature an innovative design paired with reduced radiation exposure for patients, physicians, nurses and staff," said Arun Jagannathan, MD, Interventional Radiologist at Riverside. "Additionally, the outstanding quality of the system provides an enhanced display for crystal clear visualization for our image guided therapies."

The unveiling of the four new interventional suites is the final phase of Riverside Healthcare's Lead with Your Heart fundraising campaign and a testament to the generosity by many donors. The $11 million total investment in this project is what makes the highest quality of care possible for Riverside patients.
