City of Kankakee issued the following announcement on Dec. 11.
Update from the police department: On 12-9-19 at about 12:30 p.m., Kankakee Police Officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress on the 500 block of South Greenwood Avenue. Upon arrival, an officer spotted a vehicle matching the description of the offending vehicle leaving the scene and followed it to the area of Hickory and Osborne where it was stopped. Upon stopping, one of the passengers fled on foot while the driver and another passenger remained in the vehicle. With the assistance of Kankakee County Sheriff’s Deputies, officers were able to catch the subject who fled on foot and secure the other two who stayed in the vehicle. Officers found that the subject who fled on foot was in possession of two handguns and the passenger who stayed with the vehicle possessed another handgun. None of the subjects had Firearm Owner Identification Cards nor Concealed Carry Permits. The subjects were taken into custody and charges are pending further investigation.
