City of Eureka City Council met July 6.

The Eureka City Council convened in regular session in the new Council Meeting room in the new City Hall at 7:30 p.m. Mayor Scott Zimmer noted that this is our first meeting in the new building. He thanked the Council, donors, Selection Committee, City employees, and the contractors for making this happen. He will do a video of the building, and an Open House will be scheduled later.
The Mayor called the meeting to order and after a moment of silence led The Pledge of Allegiance and then directed the City Clerk to call the roll. Present were Aldermen Chambliss, Germann, Klaus, Peterson, Prather, and Teegarden. Aldermen Getz was absent. Also in attendance were Lynn Hinnen, Treasurer;
Marilyn Walter, City Clerk; Rusty Klaus, Director of Public Works; and Chief Alex Collinge.
Moved by Teegarden, second by L. Klaus, to approve the minutes of the June 15, 2020, regular meeting of the City Council. Passed on roll call vote with Aldermen Chambliss, Germann, Klaus, Peterson, Prather, and Teegarden all voting Aye.
The Mayor asked for public comments on any action to be taken on Agenda items. There were none.
Moved by Prather, second by Chambliss, to approve and pay the bills as the City’s obligation in the amount of $89,144.20. Passed on roll call vote with Aldermen Chambliss, Germann, Klaus, Peterson, Prather, and Teegarden all voting Aye.
Melita Williams was sworn in as Ward I Alderman by the City Clerk.
C. Wayne Lenover was sworn in as Police Commissioner by the City Clerk
Committee Reports:
Chairman Prather of the Budget Committee: The audit is finished.
Chairman Chambliss of the Administration and Personnel Committee: No report
Chairman Getz of the Enterprise Committee: Rusty bids are coming if for the aeration pond at the Sewer Plant.
Chairman Peterson of the Maintenance Committee: The City employees are working on the grounds at the City Building, water/sewer locates, and getting the Park ready for the Disc Golf Tournament.
Chairman L. Klaus of the Public Safety Committee: The Drug Drop Box is full every day. The Fourth of July Parade was great. Thank you to all who helped.
Chairman Germann of the Park and Recreation Committee: No report
Chairman Teegarden of the Economic Development Committee: Later this week City signs will be installed at the Middle School and at the City Building.
Chairman Mayor Zimmer of the Liquor Committee: No report.
New Business: Germann asked about the block of gravel across Center Street south of the Fire Department. Melissa will check on that. He would like a comparison of our revenue stream next month.
Due to the pandemic, the Mayor noted that he is keeping track of how we are saving money and the sales tax coming in.
Public Comments: Mr. reported water in his basement due to sewer backup. The City is not responsible. His insurance company was given a $1600 bill for the damage. He was asked to bring this to the Enterprise Committee meeting in two weeks.
Jerry Smith is the Woodford County Supervisor and noted that he is glad to help the City in any way.
Prather thanked Eric Lind for his work at the City Building doing the audio and video setup.
There being no further business to come before the Council, the meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
