With the number of people testing positive for COVID-19 cases increasing, Kankakee City Council has reverted to meeting on Zoom.
City Council meetings will also be streamed live on Comcast local Channel 4, the City of Kankakee’s YouTube channel, and the city's website, the city said in a news release.
“New mitigation measures have been announced for Kankakee County and Will County in response to an increase in positivity rates of COVID-19 according to the Illinois Department of Public Health,” the news release said.
The measures limit meetings, social events and gatherings to 25 people or 25% of the overall room capacity indoors. To be in compliance, the City of Kankakee will conduct City Council meetings via Zoom,
“Our team continues to work hard to conduct business in the City, as well as be accessible to the public while things rapidly change under the COVID-19 pandemic,” Mayor Chasity Wells-Armstrong said.
Most cities only have one platform for remote viewing of meetings, but Kankakee has multiple for “accessibility and transparency,” the mayor said.
