Manteno FD responds to 81 fires in 2018

Manteno Fire District responded to 244 calls in 2018 - 41.9 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Manteno included 81 fires - 42 structure fires, 12 vehicle fires and 27 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $901,500 in fire loss - or about $11,130 per fire.

The department also received 161 false calls, including 11 malicious calls and 150 other false calls.

The Manteno Fire District had an annual budget of $3,086,679 in 2018.

The Manteno Community FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 22 active employees and 13 retired or inactive employees, was $167,178 positive as of May 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $3,800 for every fire in 2017.
