State Rep. Lindsay Parkhurst (R-Kankakee) has asked her constituents to "consider giving the gift of food by donating to local organizations fighting hunger in Illinois."
In a social media post, Parkhurst shared an article form ABC 20 News about food insecurity in the state. She noted that Illinois' food pantries are anticipating a great need for food in the upcoming winter and holiday seasons.
The legislator called for her voters to donate to organizations including the Center of Hope in Kankakee, We Care of Grundy County, Helping Hands Food Pantry of Peotone, the Kankakee Catholic Good Pantry, the Manteno Interfaith Food Pantry and Feed the Flock in Kankakee County.
Central Illinois Food Bank's Bath Wakefield said food distribution has jumped approximately 1.5 million pounds from 2019 to 2020, and that the number is expected to keep growing as the holidays approach.
