Committee Reports –

Student Report – Student representative, Thomas Musgrave, reported eleven music students: eight choir, two orchestra and one band student will participate in IMEA All-State, tentatively scheduled in Peoria in May. The Robotics team will build a robot and submit a video for the virtual competition that could help the team secure a place in the World Championships this spring.

Student Success & Learning Culture Committee –The committee met to discuss the Apex implementation and the Equal Opportunities survey given to staff and students. The D/F report is trending downward from 30% to 22.5%. 610 students with one or more Fs in their first semester classes were given an opportunity to improve their grades by attending I-week, January 5-8. Five-day cohort students from first semester will be invited to attend Success Coaching, a second semester intervention. Participants will remain after school when in-person to learn executive functioning and self-advocacy skills. Mr. Tingley, Mrs. Lippoldt, Mr. Kubal and Dr. Wright are working to reboot and rebrand the Fast Forward program designed to offer incoming freshmen skills prior to entering BBCHS. Fast Forward will be offered during summer school.

Professional Culture & Family and Community Partnerships Committee –The committee met to discuss I-term, Apex, and the BBCHS Showcase night. Dr. Wright reported I-week was a success. With fifty percent of the student body returning to in-person learning January 11, BBCHS will have approximately 800 students in school daily. Apex seats will be available to underclassmen for credit recovery. Seats are available due to the reduced graduation requirements for the 2021 seniors.

Showcase 2021 is going virtual. The Class of 2025 will be attending a virtual event on February 3 at 6:00 pm. After the live meeting, links will be shared with the families that allow them to view short videos explaining the Career Pathways and course offerings within each division. The Athletic and Activities fairs will be given virtually in the spring (athletics) and/or in-person in the fall (activities). Typically, 2/3rds of the incoming freshmen and their families attend Showcase night.

Finance and Operations & Optimal Facilities Committee- The committee did not meet.

KARVES – The committee did not meet.

IASB – The committee did not meet.

The following committees did not meet: Finance, KARVES and IASB.

Correspondence and/or Superintendent’s Comments – Fifty percent of the BBCHS student body returned to in-person school today, January 11th. Having students, back in the building is as if they never left. Teachers and students shared the first day of school excitement. We are still optimistic that staff will receive the first vaccination by the end of January and a second shot in February with a goal of all students returning to in-person school by the beginning of March. The school health numbers for the building and county are getting better. IHSA has a meeting scheduled January 13th but they are not optimistic for mid to high risk sports schedule in winter to begin. The badminton schedule moved up in the year. Cheer, dance and bowling seasons may resume soon.
