Kankakee County Sheriff issued the following announcement on Mar. 18.
Representatives from each police municipality in Kankakee County, in addition to the IL State Police, KAMEG, the United States Marshals Service and the Tri-County Auto Theft Task Force worked collectively yesterday during a countywide effort to apprehend fugitives and otherwise prevent crime. During the effort, local law enforcement attempted 137 outstanding arrest warrants, resulting in over 16 arrests, towed vehicles and a recovered firearm. Additionally, the IL State Police arrested 6 from a traffic detail that ran concurrently. The IL State Police also wrote 57 citations, 52 warnings and towed three cars.
“I appreciate everyone’s participation in this inter-agency cooperative effort to remove criminals from our streets and hold people accountable that decide not to show up for their court appearances,” said Sheriff Mike Downey. “This is the second similar initiative in recent months and we plan on conducting more in the near future.”
