City of Watseka City Council Met June 2.

Here is the agenda provided by the council:

The Special Called City Council Meeting was called to order by Mayor John Allhands at 7:00pm.

Present were Aldermen Garfield, Cahoe, Rushbrook, Marcier, Miller, Barragree along with Alderwomen Musk and Ulfers.

Public Comment: none

A Motion was made by Rushbrook, seconded by Garfield to authorize the engagement of Robinson Engineering to perform engineering design and construction oversight services in association with certain reconstruction/repair projects Mulberry St.-5th St. to 7th St., Ralph St.- Grant St. to Lincoln Ave., Elm St. -4th St. to 8th St., and 10th St.-Porter Ave. to Mulberry St. for roughly $350,000.00. Motion passed 8-0. For the record Alderman Cahoe does not want to see 7th St., Mulberry St. to Locust St. taken off the table.

Mayor Allhands also brought up crack filling, some discussion was had the council would like to see some numbers before making a decision. No action was taken Mayor Allhands will get some numbers and go from there.

A Motion was made by Marcier, and seconded by Cahoe Part Time Office Assistant increase from $12 hour to $18 hour. Motion passed 7-1 with Alderwoman Musk voting no.

A Motion was made by Garfield, seconded by Rushbrook Discussion and possible action on Superintendent of Public Works compensation increase, some discussion was had amongst the council. Motion did not pass 5-2- I abstaining with Alderman Rushbrook and Garfield voting yes, Alderwoman Musk abstained.

Discussion and possible action on Building Inspector compensation increase, no action was taken.

July 3rd Parade Float-Alderwoman Ulfers asked the council about having a float in the parade, the council was in favor of this. Alderwoman Ulfers asked the Council members who would be available that day and who can help. Please give her any ideas that you may have and she will check with Public Works on the use of a small trailer.

Mayor Allhands mentioned a house that had burned down that still has a garage on the property that it has been painted a bright pink, he asked the council to think about a possible ordinance to encourage earth tome colors or that some restrictions possibly being put in place to prevent this from happening again in the future.

Alderwoman Ulfers shared she was a bit disappointed that only 6 people helped put the flags out for Memorial Day and only 6 people helped take them down, it took 2-2 ½ hours to do this she would like to do this for the Fourth of July but she needs more volunteers, if she cannot get more volunteers to help she may no longer do this. They plan to put flags out July 1st at 5pm meet at City Hall she will not post on Facebook until she is given the go ahead. Discussion was had about recruiting more volunteers such as the Girl Scouts, NHS, FFA, etc.

A Motion was made by Cahoe, seconded by Garfield to adjourn at 7:41pm. Motion passed 8-0.
