City of Gilman City Council met Aug. 13.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The regular meeting of the city council was called to order by Mayor Theesfeld. Council responding to roll call were: Kraft aye, McGehee aye, Eimen aye, Fancher aye, Elliott aye, and Bachman aye. Clerk Kraft and Treasurer Morris were also present.

to approve the minutes from the regular meeting held on August 9, 2021. All aye.

Moved by McGehee Seconded by Elliott

to transfer $16,000 from the general fund to the road & bridge fund. All aye.

Mayor Theesfeld advised that he asked Neil from Piggush Engineering to attend the October council meeting to justify the cost of the engineering proposal of $285,650.00 for the North Central Street Project.

Mayor Theesfeld advised the council that the city is in need of a credit card for online purchases and other miscellaneous purchases.

to approve and adopt the Resolution No. 21-22-R5 authorizing the City of Gilman to apply for a credit card through the Prospect Bank in Gilman. All aye.

Mayor Theesfeld advised the council of a proposal by Gray’s Material to oil and chip the city street on the north side of the Ameren substation.

to approve payment of $5,503.50 to Gray’s Material to oil and chip the city street on the north side of the Ameren substation. All aye.

Mayor Theesfeld advised there have been problems with the lights at the Gateway Drive and the water tower. B & D Electric will be replacing the water tower lights using LED bulbs. The water tower is powered by Eastern Illinois Co-Op. They will also be getting a quote for replacement of the street lighting on that drive and those will be priced through the Ameren Street Lighting Program. They will be using Kim Wasmer’s lift to replace the bulbs.

Alderman Bachman had nothing to discuss.

Alderman Elliott had nothing to discuss.

Alderman Fancher had nothing to discuss.

Alderman Eimen advised that the September 1, 2021 finance committee meeting with Sheriff Derek Hagen, John Shure and Deputy Clint Perzee that they are getting closer to an agreement with the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Department for purchasing equipment and vehicle from the city. He also noted that he has seen more patrolling done by the county police officers lately.

Alderman McGehee has nothing to discuss.

Alderman Kraft said Ron Ritzma has a maple tree on the city property in front of his house that was half a dead. He was requesting the city take it down.

Mayor Theesfeld advised the council that the city received the sum of $112,289.92 from the federal American Rescue Plan Act allotment.

to approve the bills as they were presented. All aye.
