AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Medical Center Elk Grove Village to Expand, Modernize Surgical Services, Inpatient Care

3

Provena St. Mary's Hospital issued the following announcement on Oct. 13

AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Medical Center Elk Grove Village has received state approval for a $107 million hospital improvement project that will substantially expand and modernize its operating and recovery areas, as well as bring new, dedicated inpatient rooms for treatment of neurological and spinal patients.

The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board approved the investment in the hospital, which will expand the facility by more than 70,000 square feet and modernize an existing 205,955 square feet.

"The new, private inpatient rooms will include all the modern conveniences for patients receiving neurosciences services, some of our most critically ill patients," said Dan Doherty, vice president and chief operating officer for AMITA Alexian Brothers. "It's imperative we invest in our facility to better serve our patients and community."

The work will primarily affect the medical center's East Tower, which currently houses the majority of its inpatient nursing units. The expansion will include the addition of two floors with 36 beds in leading-edge patient care rooms.

In addition, the project will include 22,000 square feet of new operating rooms and recovery space, expanded to accommodate leading-edge procedures, such as new robotic, minimally invasive treatments.

"These improvements will allow patients needing the most critical care and seeking the latest treatments to get their care closer to home." Doherty said. "These improvements represent a leap forward in the experience of care for the patients most in need. We continue to advance the level of care provided, modernizing our facilities to allow for the latest treatments closer to home."

The improvements to the Elk Grove Village hospital are just one of the capital investments being made in the Chicagoland communities served by AMITA Health. In total, a full $750 million is being invested into AMITA Health hospitals throughout the city and suburbs, including other significant projects at AMITA Health St. Alexius Medical Center Hoffman Estates, AMITA Health Mercy Medical Center Aurora, AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center Chicago and AMITA Health Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Centers Chicago.

The AMITA Alexian Brothers project will break ground later this month and is expected to be completed by fall of 2023.
