Youth photographers across the state of Illinois are being urged to submit photographs that show the vision of agriculture across the state.
Young people ages 8 through 18 are invited to take part in the 2022 Cream of the Crop Photo Contest, a release from Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs said.
“The Treasurer invites youth from across the state, ages 8-18, to submit their most innovative, scenic snapshot that depicts their vision of agriculture in our state,” the release said. “The contest winners will make their mark in the Midwest as they will be featured on the new marketing material for the Ag Invest program, attend a reception with Treasurer Frerichs, plus many other prizes.”
Sen. Jason Barickman took to Facebook this week to advertise the contest, noting that each student is permitted to submit up to two photos by June 22, with winning photos featured in the 2022-2023 Cream of the Crop Calendar. All photos will be displayed at the 2022 Illinois State Fair as well.
“Do you know a young photographer ages 8-18?” Brickman said on Facebook. “Want to showcase their creativity and share their vision of agriculture in our state?”
Top photographs will be chosen for categories including ages 8 to 10, 11 to 14 and 15 to 18; a recent VermillionCountyFirst.com report said. The contest is in its 10th year, and to date more than 500 students have participated and submitted approximately 1,000 photos.
“Illinois takes pride in its farming and agricultural diversity,” Frerichs said in the report. “This contest provides students the opportunity to showcase the strength and beauty of our state’s rich agricultural landscape.”
