ONU CLAIMS CCAC CUP FOR 13th CONSECUTIVE YEAR

The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) announced last Wednesday that for the 13th straight year, Olivet Nazarene University is the recipient of the CCAC All-Sports Cup. The Tigers led the conference with 138 points while Saint Xavier University finished second with 120.5 points, and rounding out the top three was the University of St. Francis with 115.5 points.

The ONU Department of Athletes celebrated many successes in the 2021-22 season as it saw 10 CCAC Regular Season or Tournament Championships and had seven different coaches earn CCAC Coach of the Year honors. ONU also had 12 sports participate in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) postseason, and garnered numerous CCAC All-Conference and Player of the Year honors. To end the season, ONU placed 14th in the 2021-22 NAIA Learfield Directors' Cup.

"This is truly a team recognition and reflects the success and consistent commitment of all of our programs, we are very proud of our coaches and student-athletes" - Mike Conway, ONU Athletic Director.

In the 2021-22 season, ONU saw each of its CCAC-affiliated sports claim a spot in its respective postseason tournament. Collecting tournament titles were women's indoor and outdoor track, men's soccer, men's basketball, women's golf, and baseball. Regular season titles were secured by men's soccer, men's basketball, baseball, and women's tennis.  In addition to the teams earning conference crowns, the women's golf, men's and women's cross country, and men's and women's indoor and outdoor track teams sent either their team or individuals to the NAIA Championships.

While not affiliated with the CCAC, the men's and women's swim and dive teams and the football team shared many accomplishments in their respective conferences.  Led by Coach Kelly Essler, the Tiger men's and women's swim and dive teams won the KCAC title.  The men celebrated their first title in school history while the women's team won their fourth straight.  Essler's women's team finished third at the NAIA Championships while the men finished ninth.  The football team, who competes in the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA), capped off its fifth-straight winning season with a 7-3 overall record.

The CCAC All-Sports Cup is awarded annually to the institution that earns the most points from a total of 12 different sports. The point totals are determined by the conference finish in each sport. An additional point is awarded to any school that claims a conference tournament championship. The CCAC sponsors a total of 18 sports.
