TIGERS DEFEAT REDHAWKS TO REMAIN UNBEATEN IN CCAC PLAY

In four sets, the Olivet Nazarene University women's volleyball team secured their second win of the season at Mchie Arena. The Tigers took on the Redhawks of Indiana University-Northwest on Thursday night.

The Tigers took the court and asserted dominance immediately. They had a 4-2 lead in the first set thanks to a kill by freshman Sophia Johnson. This led to back to back kills by senior Sutton Bate and sophomore Kaylee Cozen. Bate had another kill, giving the Tigers a 9-3 lead. Still asserting their dominance, a kill by sophomore Halle Nicholas paved the way for seven back to back kills. The Tigers secured the first set with a 25-13 win.

ONU had a strong start to the second set, sophomore Techiya Jackson lead the way with two straight kills. However, the Redhawks kept up with the Tigers, scoring on a kill and a service ace. This didn't deter the Tigers as Bate secured another kill, bringing the score to 3-4. Despite having a few kills from Nicholas, Bate, and sophomore Kaitlyn Kolb, the Redhawks secured the set with a 25-17 victory.

ONU started the third set on fire. Nicholas scored the first kill, giving the Tigers a 3-0 lead. This lead remained throughout the set. Throughout the tough set, the Tigers managed to get multiple kills and eventually had a 10 point lead over the Redhawks. A kill by Kolb secured the match with a score of 25-14.

The Tigers had a rough start to the closing set, managing to lose the first three points to the Redhawks. But this didn't stop them. Kills by Nicholas and Bate secured the first two points of the set. Johnson and Bate secured multiple kills, eventually giving the Tigers a 10-5 lead over their opponents. A block by Bate gave the Tigers their largest lead of the set. The Redhawks couldn't keep up and surrendered the set after a kill by Nicholas closed the game and gave the Tigers their second conference win.
