City of Watseka Finance, Legal, Audit and Insurance Committee met Sept. 20

City of Watseka Finance, Legal, Audit and Insurance Committee met Sept. 20.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

PRESENT: Aldermen Barragree, Cahoe, Marcier, Miller, Alderwoman Musk, Mayor Allhands 

ABSENT: Aldermen Garfield and Rushbrook 

GUESTS: Silas West from the Watseka Family Festival and Hope Wheeler with CliftonLarsonAllen

 Alderman Barragree opened the meeting at 6:30 pm. Silas West from the Watseka Family Festival committee spoke during public comment. He stated the committee is in the planning stages for next year’s festival and are seeking a donation from the city. He stated the city is the biggest donor for the event and the donation last year paid for a lot of the entertainment. He stated the cost for the entertainment last year cost $54,000, and the stage and equipment cost $19,000. The committee is still in the process of applying for a 501c4 status. After some discussion Alderman Barragree makes a motion to recommend to the council to donate $50,000 to the Watseka Family Festival and Alderman Marcier seconded. Roll call carried 5-1 with Alderman Miller abstaining. 

Hope Wheeler with CliftonLarsonAllen spoke next. She stated the fiscal year audit is now complete. There were no adjusting entries to be made this year, and no changes and in their opinion, it was a clean audit. She stated the segregation of duties has been addressed and Treasurer Marcia Craft will be doing spot checks on credit memos and accounts receivables. Also the public works director will be signing off on time cards. 

Alderman Barragree makes a motion to recommend to the council to accept the August Treasurers report and Alderman Marcier seconded. Roll call carried 6-0. 

Alderwoman Musk stated Attorney Cainkar’s bill is getting higher all the time and maybe there shouldn’t be so many phones made to him. 

Alderman Barragree makes a motion to adjourn at 6:50 and Alderman Marcier seconded. Roll call carried 6-0.
