CASH AND LOICHINGER SELECTED AS NAIA ALL-AMERICA HONORABLE MENTIONS

Abbey Cash and Sara Loichinger of the Olivet Nazarene University women's soccer team were selected to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-America Honorable Mentions announced on Wednesday. They were named along with the NAIA's All-America selections for their performance throughout the 2022 season.

 

Cash, a native of Gardner, Ill., is named as an honorable mention for the third consecutive season. She is also a three-time CCAC First Team All-Conference honoree. The senior's most memorable moment was her goal against Cardinal Stritch. With the result of the match ultimately determining the regular season title, Cash's goal in the 65th minute proved to be the game-winner with a 3-1 final. She finishes her ONU career with nine goals and 22 assists totaling 40 points.

Loichinger, a native of New Lenox, Ill., returned to the team after missing out on the 2021 season due to injury. The outside back earned the NAIA All-America Honorable mention for the first time in her career. She was named to the CCAC First Team-All Conference for the first time this year as well. Loichinger score seven goals and doled out five assists totaling 19 points. Her most memorable moments of the season came in the regular season matchup with Cardinal Stritch assisting Cash's goal and scoring the third goal to secure the win.

 

Cash and Loichinger led the Tigers to a CCAC regular season title and an appearance in the conference tournament final. ONU went on to win their first NAIA National Tournament game since 2013. The Tigers outscored opponents 71-26 accumulating a 9-3 home record with a 5-3-1 record on the road culminating to a berth in the NAIA National Tournament First and Second Rounds.
