TIGERS STAY IN THE HUNT; OUTLAST TITANS AT HOME 65-62

The Olivet Nazarene University men's basketball team held on down the stretch to stay in the hunt for a CCAC regular-season title with a 65-62 win over Indiana South Bend Wednesday night.

The Titans (16-7, 11-4 CCAC) opened the second half with seven unanswered points to quickly erase the three-point ONU lead. Tyler Schmidt dropped in a layup and then consecutive layups from Braydon Flagg put the Tigers back in front.

IU-South Bend clawed their way back to a four-point advantage with 13 minutes to play. But that was when Landon Pflederer and Caleb Swearingen connected on back-to-back threes to ignite an 11-2 run that gave the Tigers a lead that they would hold on to for the remainder of the game.

Sam Emich buried a pair of three-pointers to put ONU up by nine with a little more than three minutes to go. IU-South Bend then ripped off eight-straight points in three possessions to cut the ONU lead to one with 1:45 to play.

But a great pass from Schmidt found Flagg in the post, who then converted the layup to put the Tigers back up by three. ONU got two key stops down the stretch to nail down the 65-62 victory.

Four Tigers finished in double-figures in the win. Emich scored a team-high 18 points and snagged eight boards. Schmidt finished with 16 while dishing out seven assists. Pflederer and Flagg chipped in 10 points each.

The win improves ONU to 13-3 in conference play and keeps them one game behind Roosevelt for the top spot in the CCAC standings.
