City of Watseka Finance, Legal & Audit Committee met Jan. 17.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

PRESENT: Aldermen Barragree, Cahoe, Marcier, Garfield, Miller, Alderwoman Rohlfs, and Mayor Allhands 

ABSENT: Alderwoman Musk 

GUESTS: Resident Jody Schuler 

Alderman Barragree opened the meeting at 6:30 pm. Jody Schuler spoke during public comment concerning her daughters request to service beer and wine at her hair salon. She gave a timeline of events that she attended and has also talked to Police Chief Douglas about the request. She stated she has not heard anything positive about their request so at this time she is pulling the request to serve alcohol at the salon. She stated other communities seem to be moving forward but not Watseka. The committee discussed the possibilities of a new classification for this type of service. The liquor committee will meet soon and come up with a solution. 

Alderman Barragree makes a motion to recommend to the Council to accept the December Treasurers report and Alderman Marcier seconded. Roll call carried 7-0. 

Alderman Barragree stated he would like to discuss the fact that the City doesn’t observe 3 federal holidays. They are Martin Luther King Day, Juneteenth and Columbus day and he believes this needs to be changed. All other governmental offices, banks and post offices are closed. The committee is ok with this, Attorney Cainkar will be contacted. 

Alderman Barragree stated he is starting work on the budget and has been talking to the department heads. 

Alderman Barragree makes a motion to adjourn at 6:40 and Alderman Cahoe seconded. Roll call carried 7-0.
