Rep. Jackie Haas acknowledged the National Future Farmer of America Week in a Feb. 23 Facebook post.
The FFA dates back to 1928 when the State Supervisor of Agriculture Education J.E. Hill mentioned the program to teachers at a state teachers' convention and nearly 1,500 students joined.
"Happy National FFA Week to our Illinois FFA chapters and the young leaders participating in FFA programs across the nation!" Haas wrote.
Haas represents the people of the 79th House District of Illinois. She has worked as a social worker for decades. She joined the Helen Wheeler Center for Community Mental Health and became the organization's CEO in 2000.
Celebrating their history, the Illinois Future Farmers of America (FFA) made a Facebook post of their own.
"Happy FFA Week Illinois FFA!" FFA wrote. "The Major State Officer Team is kicking the week off with SAE Sunday. We have all shared a glimpse of what our Supervised Agriculture Experiences are like, and we encourage you to do the same! Keep a lookout for an SAE article to see all of the opportunities that come with a record book! #FFAWeek2023 #NationalFFAWeek #electrifyilffa"
