Manteno High School Principal Roger Schnitzler has resigned from his position following his arrest at Kankakee River State Park in Bourbonnais.
Schnitzler was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and aggravated assault related to alleged lewd activities at the park. Following his arrest, he resigned from his position, effective June 20.
"On Thursday, June 15, Illinois Conservation Police conducted an undercover detail at Kankakee River State Park in response to ongoing reports of people engaging in lewd activities on park grounds,” the Illinois Department of Natural Resources said according to Fox Chicago. “During the detail, an individual identified as Rodger R. Schnitzler, 55, of Manteno was arrested for disorderly conduct and aggravated assault. He was released from police custody at the park. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law."
Schnitzler was taken into custody for disorderly conduct and aggravated assault. The school district confirmed his resignation, and Schnitzler was subsequently released by the police.
“Mr. Schnitzler has resigned from his position as Manteno High School Principal. He is retiring,” Manteno School Superintendent Lisa Harrod said, the Daily Journal reported. “Doug Wenzel will be principal and he will do amazing things. The leadership team at the high school is strong and will continue to move the district forward and create opportunities for students and staff.”
Schnitzler is a resident of Manteno, Illinois, who has lived in other parts of the state as well, including Elizabeth and Urbana. He served as the former principal of Manteno High School and earned varying salaries over the years, starting from $98,762 in 2018 and increasing to $115,140 in 2021. Schnitzler is married to Sandra Schnitzler, and they have a daughter named Emma Schnitzler, who graduated from Manteno High School in 2022.
Schnitzler was featured on the Kankakee Area Career Center Twitter feed after taking delivery of 35 Chromebooks to be utilized by CTE students at MHS.
