City of Watseka Public Safety Committee met July 11.

PRESENT: Aldermen Barragree, Cahoe, Miller, Muench, Marcier, Anderson, Alderwomen Rohlfs, and Musk

GUESTS: Auxiliary Officer Mark Garfield, Fire Captain J.D. Howe, and Police Chief Jeremy Douglas
Alderman Barragree opened the meeting at 6:30 pm. There was no public comment. Auxiliary Officer Mark Garfield stated his department’s monthly meeting was equipment check and handcuffing techniques and reviewing parade protocol. The department also assisted with the bomb incident and the 4th of July parade.
Fire Captain J.D. Howe stated the fire department had 3 fires, 6 EMS assists, 9 ambulance calls, 4 MVA’s, 6 automatic alarms, 1 autoaid call, 2 mutual aid calls, 2 CO Alarm, and 7 other miscellaneous calls for the month of June. Training for June consisted of brush truck operations, search and rescue operations, hose line advancement under smoke and fire conditions, multi company operations under heat and smoke conditions. Lt. Duane Brose, Firefighter Jackie Lesage and Firefighter Ryan Burton have all passed their EMT National Registry test. The department has finally received the new Tahoe and it is on the road now. Alderman Anderson thanked the EMT’s that passed their National Registry Testing as it’s a hard test to pass.
Police Chief Jeremy Douglas stated his department had 385 calls for the month of June. The department is now in possession of the speed radar unit that was purchased with funds from the Miner Foundation. The department will be able to gather information such as number of cars, average speed etc. The department also purchased a wheel lock. New Officer Cory Hamlin will be graduating at the end of August and should be able to go solo around the first of September as he already has done a lot of his FTO. Chief stated the digital radios are up and running with a cost of $5400.00 and the COVID funds paid for this expense.
Alderman Miller asked about residents in WestSide Park until midnight playing basketball. Chief stated the residents need to call ICOM and report it.
Alderman Barragree makes a motion to adjourn at 6:44 pm and Alderman Muench seconded. Roll call carried 8-0.
