State Representative Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) was honored last Friday with the Illinois Osteopathic Medical Society’s 2023 Legislator of the Year Award. The Illinois Osteopathic Medical Society, which was founded in 1903, advocates for Osteopathic Physicians (DOs) and their patients, promoting a holistic approach to healing that incorporates both the body and mind.

In her acceptance speech, Rep. Haas expressed her gratitude for the recognition, stating, "It is an honor to receive the Legislator of the Year Award from this organization. The Illinois Osteopathic Medical Society does incredible work in advocating for Osteopathic Physicians and their patients." As a licensed clinical social worker, Rep. Haas also highlighted the overlap between her work in the mental healthcare field and the holistic approach of Osteopathic Physicians. She added, "Their holistic approach to healing often overlaps with the work I do in the mental healthcare field on a daily basis."

Leader Haas has been serving her community as a social worker for over 30 years, advocating for early childhood development, quality healthcare, and behavioral health. As the CEO of the Helen Wheeler Center for Community Mental Health since 2000, she has dedicated herself to improving the well-being of individuals in her community. In her role as a State Representative, Rep. Haas serves as the ranking Republican on the Mental Health & Addiction and Health Care Availability & Access Committees, and also serves on several other committees related to health and human services.

Expressing her commitment to improving the healthcare system in Illinois, Rep. Haas said, "Thank you to the Illinois Osteopathic Medical Society for honoring me with this award. I look forward to continuing our partnership as we work to improve the Illinois healthcare system for both workers and patients."
