City of Momence City Council met Nov. 6.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The City Council Meeting of the City of Momence was held in the Council Chambers at 29 North Dixie Highway, Momence.

ROLL CALL

Roll was called by the Clerk with Aldermen Doody, Vela, Clark, Fordahl, Cook, Temple and Lesyna present. Alderman Huddelston was absent.

APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES

Alderman Cook made motion to approve the minutes of October 16, with a correction noted. Alderman Temple seconded the motion with Aldermen Doody, Vela, Clark, Fordahl, Cook and Lesyna voting yes.

APPROVAL OF THE BILLS

Alderman Doody made motion to approve the bills for payment. Alderman Vela seconded the motion with Aldermen Doody, Vela, Clark, Fordahl, Temple and Lesyna voting yes. Alderman Cook passed.

CITIZENS FOROM –

Old Business – Alderman Vela inquired about the phone issue from the previous meeting. Mayor indicated that the phone system is running, but on a borrowed system. $500.00 bill thus far. Mayor spoke to IT about putting in fiberoptic lines, but this is a very expensive process. They are still in discussion about this.

Aldermanic –

Alderman Doody – Budget and Finance meeting 11/20, 7:15 PM

Budget is still needed from Street and Alley, police department. The budget needs to be discussed and reviewed, voted on along with the tax abatement and levy prior to 12/31/23.

Alderman Temple – requesting executive session to discuss employment to come out to do business.

Alderman Lesyna – licensing ordinance.

There is still a concern of contractors in case of emergency – out of area need a business license to operate in the city? City Hall is making sure the outside contractors are insured. Decision made to add outside contractor to the ordinance.

There is a discrepancy on who is a peddler vs. business.

Chief Siemson concerned with food trucks/vendors. City needs to know who they are, need to register with the city.

Department Heads – Scott –working on leaves, emptying 7-8 loads per day. The last day for brush will be 11/14.

Tina – treasure is balancing, working on the laptop from home. She stated have not heard from auditors.

Chief Siemson – school updates – high visibility with the schools.

Still working on a school resource officer – school needs to decide.

Both squads are in

Baker and Taylor/Vandrunen Farms – crime prevention training. This will be available for all business, looking at this becoming a state requirement in the next few years.

Attended a class with attorney handling on unemployment. He recommended that Tina and Pepper attend. Facebook page doing well

Cadet program is receiving a lot of interest.

Officer Guitterez doing well

Alderman Fordahl suggested to Chief Siemson to inquire with the school to have info added to the school website in the announcements. Chief to look in to.

Treasurer report –

MAYORAL REPORT – Thank you to Christy Ritter and Tanya Fordahl for their assistance during Bordertown Hauntings.

Water line has been restored at the property of Vicki Thorn located on Washington Street

Requested a motion to move into executive session.

Alderman Cook made motion to move into executive session. Alderman Doody seconded the motion with Aldermen Doody, Vela, Clark, Fordahl, Cook, Temple and Lesyna voting yes.

Adjourned to executive session 8:13 PM

Returned to open session 8:38 PM

Alderman Temple made motion to hire two officers to Momence police department. Alderman Cook seconded the motion with Aldermen Doody, Vela, Clark, Fordahl, Cook, Temple and Lesyna voting yes.

Alderman Cook made motion to adjourn. Alderman Doody seconded the motion Aldermen Doody, Vela, Clark, Fordahl, Cook, Temple and Lesyna voting yes.

Meeting adjourned at 8:39 PM
