Westmont Village Board of Fire and Police Commissioners met May 18.

Chiefs Conference Room at the Westmont Police Department

1. Call to Order

Chairman Kovanda called the May 18, 2024 Special Meeting of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners to order at 8:00 AM .

2. Roll Call

Chairman Kovanda - Present; Commissioner Qualizza - Present; Commissioner Mulhearn - Present; a quorum was present.

3. Ongoing Business

On this day, the Board conducted oral interviews of entry level patrol Lateral Officer Candidates. The candidates were individually escorted to the Chiefs Conference Room where the candidates completed a short written biography. The candidates were then escorted to the Training Room at the Westmont Police Department where the oral interviews were conducted.

Candidate # 1 Emailed The Commission informing us that he had accepted a conditional offer with another department. Candidate #1 explained to The Commission he chose them solely for the fact that it would be closer to where he resides and there were opportunities for specialty units.

Candidate # 2 Completed the oral interview process after which the candidate was dismissed from the proceedings. The Commissioners deliberated on the candidate’s oral interview performance. Chairman Kovanda made a motion to advance the candidate to the polygraph phase of the hiring process. Commissioner Qualizza seconded the motion.

Vote: Yes-3, No-0. Motion Carries.

The candidate will be informed of the Board’s decision.

Commissioners: Robert J. Kovanda, Chairman - Stella Qualliza, Secretary - Tom Mulhearn, Commissioner

Candidate # 3 Completed the oral interview process after which the candidate was dismissed from the proceedings. The Commissioners deliberated on the candidate’s oral interview performance. Chairman Kovanda made a motion to advance the candidate to the polygraph phase of the hiring process. Commissioner Mulhearn seconded the motion.

Vote: Yes-0, No-3 Motion Does Not Carry.

The candidate will be informed of The Board’s decision.

Candidate # 4 Completed the oral interview process after which the candidate was dismissed from the proceedings. The Commissioners deliberated on the candidate’s oral interview performance. Chairman Kovanda made a motion to advance the candidate to the polygraph phase of the hiring process. Commissioner Qualizza seconded the motion.

Vote: Yes-3, No-0 Motion Carries.

Chairman Kovanda made a motion to advance the candidate to the polygraph phase of the hiring process. Commissioner Mulhearn seconded the motion.

Vote: Yes-3, No-0. Motion Carries.

Vote: Yes-0, No-3. Motion Does Not Carry.

4. Adjournment

There being no additional business before the Commission at this time, Chairman Kovanda made the motion to adjourn and Commissioner Qualizza seconded the motion.

Vote: Yes-3; No-0: Motion Carries.

The Commission adjourned at 4:05 PM.
