State Representative Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) has been awarded a fellowship to attend the upcoming Midwestern Leadership Institute. The event, organized by The Council of State Governments’ 29th annual Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development (BILLD), will take place from August 23-27 in Madison, Wisconsin.

“It is such an honor to be selected for this incredible opportunity,” said Rep. Haas. “Attending the upcoming Midwestern Leadership Institute will allow me to learn and grow as a lawmaker, all while meeting incredible other legislators from across the Midwest and Canada.”

Since its founding in 1995, BILLD has graduated approximately 1,000 lawmakers. State legislators from 11 Midwestern states are chosen to participate through a competitive, nonpartisan selection process. This year, Haas is one of 39 legislators selected for the program.

The 2024 BILLD program, a project of The Council of State Governments’ Midwestern Office, will feature courses and seminars led by policy experts, Midwestern legislative leaders, and professional development trainers. In addition to developing leadership skills, the curriculum covers various public policy issues including the economy, trade, criminal justice, and public safety policy.

Rep. Haas concluded, “As lifelong learners, there are always opportunities for us to grow as public servants and lawmakers. I am looking forward to bringing back additional knowledge and experience to continue serving the people of the 79th District.”
