FOIA Request to Kankakee County Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
In our continuous effort to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Kankakee Times have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Kankakee County Election Division. The request, dated February 5, 2025, seeks detailed information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.
Specifically, we requested a list of all candidates' names - first, middle and last - along with the office they are running for and its jurisdiction. We also asked for each candidate's party affiliation.
Furthermore, we requested all available contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to such records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
