A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Iroquois County Il Election Division on February 5, 2025. The request, submitted by us at Kankakee Times, sought comprehensive details about all candidates running in the upcoming spring election.
In our commitment to provide accurate and comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs, we requested specific information under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The information requested included the full names of all candidates (first, middle, and last), the office they are running for, their jurisdiction of office, and their party affiliation.
In addition to these details about the candidates' political affiliations and aspirations, we also requested their contact information. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe that access to such public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We have therefore asked for a fee waiver as a media professional in this request.
