Kankakee County residents paid 30th-largest sum in sales taxes in Illinois during 2023

Kankakee County taxpayers paid the 30th largest sum in sales taxes in 2023, according to Illinois tax records.

In total, residents paid just under $6.6 million in sales taxes during 2023.

The county ranked 34th in the Prairie State the year before, with approximately $6.1 million spent in sales taxes.

The largest share of sales taxes paid by Kankakee County residents in 2023 came from the Countywide Sales Tax.

The Countywide Sales Tax, a crucial revenue stream, is primarily allocated for county governments' use.

As of 2021, Illinois was the highest taxed state in the US. A study from Wallet Hub found Illinois taxes were 39.83% higher than the national average.
