Today, Governor J.B. Pritzker provided testimony on immigration at a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing in Washington, D.C. In response to this event, State Representative Jackie Haas from Kankakee expressed her concerns through a public statement.
Rep. Haas criticized the current administration's handling of immigration issues in Illinois, stating: "Today, the entire nation was able to witness the daily reality of Illinois: a failed administration that continually places the comforts and desires of undocumented immigrants over the needs of Illinoisans." She further emphasized her view that political ambitions are being prioritized over effective governance.
Haas pointed out that significant financial resources have been allocated to programs for undocumented immigrants. She argued that these funds could be better used for essential services benefiting all residents of Illinois, particularly seniors and working families.
Expressing hope for change following Governor Pritzker's testimony, Rep. Haas stated: "I hope this testimony was a wake-up call to the Pritzker administration that the course we are on here in Illinois is completely unsustainable." She called for an end to what she described as excessive funding directed towards policies supported by Governor Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson.
Haas also advocated for repealing sanctuary state laws and fostering cooperation with federal authorities to improve outcomes for Illinois citizens. More information about Representative Haas can be found at RepHaas.com.
