U.S. Representative Robin Kelly, who has consistently secured re-election in Illinois’ 2nd Congressional District, posted a series of tweets on August 22 and 23, 2025, addressing local and national issues including public safety in Chicago and urban agriculture initiatives.
On August 22, Kelly criticized former President Donald Trump’s approach to public safety in Chicago, stating: "President Trump: You are not welcome in Chicago. Sending the National Guard endangers Black communities already overpoliced & under-invested in. If you cared about saving lives, you'd pass gun safety laws & fund community violence intervention." She also shared a link for her full statement on the matter: "You can read my full statement at https://t.co/pK36gNniWI".
The following day, Kelly highlighted the efforts of an urban farming initiative within Chicago. She wrote: "Farms can thrive right in the city of Chicago! Urban Growers Collective’s work goes beyond growing food—it's about cultivating health, building community, and planting hope right here at home."
Robin Kelly has held her seat since first winning a special election in 2013 and has continued to secure substantial majorities in subsequent elections. In the most recent general election of 2022, she defeated Thomas Lynch with over two-thirds of the vote (67.1%). Previous victories include wins against Theresa Raborn (78.8% to 21.2%) in 2020, David Merkle (81.1% to 18.9%) in 2018, John Morrow (79.8% to 20.2%) in 2016, and Eric Wallace (78.5% to 21.4%) in 2014.
