U.S. Representative Robin Kelly, who has served Illinois’ 2nd congressional district since 2013, recently addressed issues of gun safety, gender equality, and law enforcement on her official Twitter account.

On August 26, 2025, Kelly expressed condolences following a tragic incident involving a child in her community. She wrote, "My heart is with the family of a 5-year-old boy who unintentionally shot himself when he found an unsecured gun. I, alongside the Kenwood community, grieves with them. This tragedy reminds us of the urgent need for safe storage to protect the 4.6 million children who live in".

In another post on August 27 marking Women’s Equality Day, Kelly highlighted ongoing challenges facing women and reiterated her commitment to advocacy. She stated, "Women get things done — no matter the obstacles . It’s beyond time, though, that we tear down those obstacles and turn gender equality into a reality. On this Women’s Equality Day and beyond, I promise to continue to fight for women’s safety, equal pay, our right to vote,".

Later that day on August 27, Kelly commented on former President Donald Trump’s criminal record and his approach to public safety funding in Chicago: "President Trump — a man convicted of 34 felonies — does not care about law and order. Since Day One, he’s rolled back gun safety progress and withheld $800 million in funds to CVI groups. If he sends the National Guard to Chicago, he will undo all our efforts."

Kelly has consistently secured reelection by significant margins over multiple election cycles: defeating Thomas Lynch in 2022 with more than two-thirds of the vote; Theresa Raborn in 2020 with nearly four-fifths; David Merkle in 2018; John Morrow in 2016; and Eric Wallace in 2014—all by similarly wide margins.
