U.S. Representative Robin Kelly, who has represented Illinois' 2nd congressional district since 2013, posted a series of tweets on August 29 and 30, 2025 addressing her ongoing work in Washington, public health concerns related to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and federal gun law reform.

On August 29, Kelly announced her return to Washington to continue her legislative efforts. She encouraged constituents to stay informed by subscribing to her newsletter: "On Tuesday, I'm going back to Washington to keep working for our community. To get the latest news about my work on Capitol Hill and in the District, sign up for my newsletter:" (August 29, 2025).

Later that day, Kelly criticized recent actions by the White House regarding public health leadership: "The White House has fired medical experts and purged scientists from top positions at the CDC, risking public health. Science, not conspiracy theories, should be the basis of public health policy." (August 29, 2025).

In a tweet posted on August 30, Kelly called for immediate action on gun law reform and condemned what she described as inadequate responses from former President Trump and Republican lawmakers: "We are way past 'thoughts and prayers.' President Trump and his complicit Republicans have blood on their hands and need to act now and reform federal gun laws. Our children deserve action, not empty words." (August 30, 2025).

Robin Kelly has consistently secured reelection in Illinois' 2nd congressional district over multiple election cycles. In recent years she won against Thomas Lynch in the 2022 general election with approximately two-thirds of the vote; previous victories include significant margins over Theresa Raborn in 2020 as well as David Merkle in 2018.
