City of Momence City Council met Aug. 4.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The City Council Meeting of the City of Momence was held in the Council Chambers at 29 North Dixie Highway, Momence.

The Pledge was led by the Momence Glad Fest Royalty

ROLL CALL

Roll was called by the Acting Clerk with Aldermen Vela, Anderson, Fordahl, Cook, and Lesyna, Hart and Temple present. Alderman Doody was absent

APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES

Alderman Josh Anderson made motion to approve the minutes of July 21st. Alderman Fordahl seconded the motion with Aldermen Fordahl, Cook, Hart, Temple and Lesyna voting yes

APPROVAL OF THE BILLS

Alderman Cool made motion to approve the bills for payment. Alderman Lesyna seconded the motion with Aldermen Cook, Anderson, Fordahl, Hart and Temple voting yes.

CITIZENS FOROM-

Kimberly Thompson, from the Farmer's Market- requesting to extend the market Sept 28th in the same location. Also, placement of a port a potty, Alderman Cook asked if the port a potty could be locked when no in use. Kimberly was going to check with the company. There was also a request made to have an October Fest on 10/24, 10/25 and 10/26 in the same location to run 9 til 3pm. Alderman Cook made the motion to approve, Alderman Lesyna 2nd. All Aldermen voted yes.

Northern Illinois Anglers Association requested a dumpster to be placed by the footbridge by the Island Park, the annual river clean up is Sept 20th 8am - 1pm, for safety of the volunteers and the work being done on the bridges is the reason for the placement request. Each year they collect 40 tons of garbage from the river. Alderman Cook made the motion of approve the request and Alderman Temple 2nd. All aldermen voted yes.

Old Business -

Nothing for old business

Aldermanic-

Mark Lesyna - Question on how much revenue was lost with Johnsonville closing, Mayor advised that a committee meeting will be held on the 14th. Mark also asked if the city wanted to continue with the Grocery Tax of 1% that the State of Illinois is doing away with in January.

David Cook - Reviewed the minutes from Planning & Zone Meeting on 2 variance requests. 403 N. Elm and 510 E. 3rd St. Both were requesting fences coming past the rear corner of the homes. Alderman Cook passed around the drawings provide and explained that the board approved. Alderman Cook made the motion to accept the request and Alderman Temple 2nd. All Aldermen voted yes.

Department Heads-

Eric Vela - Nothing

Tina Demack - Lisa was here and balanced currently. Also still having internet issues, have a meeting scheduled with Jason from Advanced Computers, with the Mayor and Mark Lesyna on the 21st at 2pm.

Chief Seimsen - Officers are out actively looking for Code Violations, several letters sent many are complying to the letters. CSO Carmen Arroyo will be attending part-time academy, she very natural when it comes to customer service. Both offenders from the child pornography and sexual assault arrest remain in custody. Purchased a used Ford Explorer from Court Street Ford, to replace the Charger that is not working. Purchased new tasers and have received 50% of the cost of them from a grant and should be receiving soon an 2nd grant to cover the balance. Route 1 is asking to use part of the PD Parking lot to display some vehicles during Glad Fest. Some ideas were exchanged about placement and how busy that parking lot is during Glad Fest. Mayor recommended contacting the owner of the property across the street. Alderman Cook made the motion to approve use of parking lot/grass area if needed. Alderman Fordahl 2nd. All Alderman voted yes.

Treasurer report -

MAYORAL REPORT - asked for approval to change Water & Sewer Committee Chairman from Avelino Vela to Josh Anderson, and Economic Development Chairman from Josh Anderson to Avelino Vela, Alderman Cook made the motion and Alderman Temple 2nd. All Alderman Voted yes.

Mayor stated they met with Baxter & Woodman and requested a Water & Sewer Committee meeting on Aug. 14th at 6pm, to go over the upcoming project.

Alderman Cook made motion to adjourn. Alderman Temple seconded the motion. Aldermen Vela, Anderson, Hart and Lesyna voting yes.

Meeting adjourned at 8:10 PM

Budget and Finance Committee

The Budget and Finance Committee meeting was held in the Council Chambers at 29 North Dixie Highway, Momence.

Present: committee members: Aldermen: Cook and Lesyna and Hart. Also, present was Aldermen Vela, Anderson, Fordahl and Hart.

Bills were discussed for payment.

Meeting adjourned at 7:20 PM
