State Representative Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) has named Knack Brewing as her August 2025 Local Business Spotlight. Haas visited the Kankakee brewery, where she presented owners Matt and Emily Strysik with a certificate of appreciation recognizing their role in the community.
“I’m delighted to highlight Knack Brewing as this month’s Local Business Spotlight,” said Rep. Haas. “Matt and Emily have created a fun and welcoming space that celebrates local artists and offers a real sense of community.”
Knack Brewing was opened by Matt and Emily Strysik more than three years ago. Matt, who had spent 15 years home brewing, decided to transition from business-to-business sales alongside Emily to pursue brewing professionally.
The brewery focuses on maintaining high standards for its beer, regularly investing in industry knowledge and technology such as specialized tap faucets. According to Haas, “One of the things that stood out most to me was the desire of Knack Brewing to lead the way in the revitalization of downtown Kankakee. Their commitment to excellent quality and service, along with building up our local community, made them a perfect fit for this month’s spotlight.”

Haas was elected as a Republican representative for Illinois’ 79th House District in 2020, succeeding Lindsay Parkhurst.
