Former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar died yesterday. He was known for his leadership in the state and his efforts to improve the lives of Illinois residents.

Illinois State Representative Jackie Haas, who represents the 79th House District after being elected in 2020 as a Republican to replace Lindsay Parkhurst, reflected on Edgar’s legacy. "He was a beacon of leadership in Illinois and showed what is possible when elected officials work hard to benefit the people they serve. I was honored to be a member of his Edgar Fellows program, which promoted working across the aisle and having open dialogue and conversations with everyone. He will be sorely missed. May Governor Edgar rest in peace!"

Edgar's commitment to bipartisan cooperation left an impression on many current lawmakers, including Haas.
