U.S. Representative Robin Kelly has publicly criticized the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement practices and recent legislative actions in a series of posts on September 19, 2025.
In her first statement, Kelly addressed conditions at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities, writing on September 19: "The widespread violations at ICE facilities across the nation represent a broken system. Instead of using fear, President Trump and Secretary Noem should focus on creating a humane and transparent immigration process. It is time for meaningful reform, not more intimidation."
Later that day, she commented on her vote regarding a continuing resolution in Congress: "I stood with my @HouseDemocrats colleagues to save healthcare. I voted NO on the partisan continuing resolution because it threatens care for millions." The post referenced concerns about potential impacts to healthcare coverage as a result of proposed legislation.
In another post from September 19, Kelly further condemned ICE practices under President Trump’s administration: "President Trump’s ICE is treating people like ANIMALS — not human beings. This is not okay. This is not the America I know. This is deplorable. I’m fighting against this administration and its Gestapo tactics."
Robin Kelly has served as U.S. Representative for Illinois's 2nd congressional district since winning a special election in 2013. She has consistently secured re-election by wide margins in subsequent general elections: defeating Thomas Lynch in 2022 with over two-thirds of the vote; Theresa Raborn in 2020 with nearly 79 percent; David Merkle in 2018 with over 81 percent; John Morrow in 2016 with almost 80 percent; and Eric Wallace in 2014 with more than three-quarters of the vote.
Her recent statements reflect ongoing debates around U.S. immigration policy and healthcare funding within Congress.
