U.S. Representative Robin Kelly, a Democrat from Illinois, used her social media platform to address issues surrounding healthcare, government accountability, and civil rights in a series of posts on September 22 and 23, 2025.

On September 22, Kelly criticized Republican lawmakers regarding the impending government shutdown and its impact on healthcare policy. She stated, "I will not allow Republicans to divide us and distract us from the fight for healthcare for all Americans. The truth is, Republicans skipped town with a government shutdown looming in 8 days. They created a healthcare crisis and now refuse to fix it."

Later that evening, Kelly questioned former President Donald Trump's commitment to law enforcement following reports about an investigation involving Tom Homan. In her post dated September 23, she wrote, "This, from a president who cares about 'law and order'? The Trump administration shut down an investigation into Border Czar, Tom Homan, who was caught on tape taking $50,000 in cash. President Trump only cares about the law when it protects his own."

The following day, Kelly reflected on the meaning of American values related to justice and liberty. She posted on September 23: "What does 'land of liberty and justice for all' really mean? It means protecting everyone's rights—like due process and no unlawful searches—no matter one’s immigration status. That's the foundation of our democracy."

Robin Kelly has consistently won re-election by significant margins since first being elected to Congress in 2013. In recent election cycles she defeated Thomas Lynch in 2022 with over two-thirds of the vote; Theresa Raborn in 2020 with nearly 79% of the vote; David Merkle in 2018 with more than four-fifths of ballots cast; John Morrow in 2016 by almost an identical margin; and Eric Wallace in 2014 with nearly four-fifths support.
