U.S. Representative Robin Kelly addressed recent incidents in Michigan and Chicago through a series of posts on her social media account, expressing concern over gun violence and federal immigration enforcement tactics.
On September 30, 2025, Kelly commented on a violent event in Michigan, stating, "My heart is with the survivors and families who lost loved ones in the shooting and fire in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Places of worship should be a sanctuary and safe from violence. Gun violence is preventable, and we need commonsense federal gun reform now."
Later that day, she criticized actions by federal authorities in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood. According to her post at 13:49 UTC, "Last night, ICE stormed the South Shore with armed raids that terrorized our community and shook our neighborhood. These reckless tactics don’t make us safer—they sow fear and distrust. Chicago deserves better. ICE and federal troops need to get out of Chicago." In a subsequent message posted moments later, Kelly added, "I will continue to press for oversight and demand that ICE end these Gestapo-style tactics. Our communities deserve safety, dignity, and respect—not fear in the dead of night."
Robin Kelly has represented Illinois’ 2nd congressional district since winning a special election in 2013. She has consistently secured re-election by wide margins against Republican challengers: defeating Thomas Lynch in 2022 with 67.1% of the vote; Theresa Raborn in 2020 with 78.8%; David Merkle in 2018 with 81.1%; John Morrow in 2016 with 79.8%; and Eric Wallace in 2014 with 78.5%.
