State Representative Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) has shared updates with constituents as the Illinois General Assembly prepares for its fall veto session. The session, which allows legislators to address bills vetoed during the spring, is expected to focus on issues such as energy policy and public transit funding.

Haas noted that because of the Democratic super-majority in the legislature, there may be limited need for veto overrides. She stated, "Instead, veto session will likely be focused on a number of critical issues in Illinois, such as a bill to address our energy crisis and a potential solution to the CTA budget cliff. Stay tuned to my social media and next month’s newsletter for updates on what happens during this session."

Her office has organized several community events for October, including two prescription drug drop-off drives and a blood drive. Details about these events are available through her office.

Haas also highlighted recent district activities. These included celebrating young readers at Luconi’s Pizza in Bradley during the Summer Reading Program Pizza Party and recognizing the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 392 for its 100th anniversary. She attended Healthcare Innovation’s Annual Health Equity & Innovation Symposium and participated in Kankakee Chamber of Commerce events focused on business development.

The United Way Annual Celebration announced that Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library will launch in Kankakee County, aiming to provide books to children in need.

Haas’ Chief of Staff represented her at the NAACP Annual State Convention. "Thank you to the NAACP for organizing this event and for your continued efforts to improve our community!" Haas said.

Each month, Haas spotlights local businesses. In August, Knack Brewing was recognized for its commitment to quality and downtown revitalization. September's spotlight went to D. Westphal Jewelers, honored for decades of service across three generations.

Upcoming events include:

- Prescription Drug Take Back Day: October 4 at Hippocrates Medical Center

- Blood Drive: October 17 at Bourbonnais Municipal Center

- DEA National Rx Take Back Day: October 25 at North Field Square Mall

Constituents can also request museum passes through Haas’ office.

Jackie Haas was elected as a Republican representative in 2020 for Illinois' 79th House District after succeeding Lindsay Parkhurst.

For more information or assistance, residents are encouraged to contact Haas’ office.
