Robin Kelly, U.S. Representative for Illinois’s 2nd congressional district, posted a series of statements on her social media account in early October 2025 addressing federal actions in Chicago, the ongoing government shutdown, and support for local educators.
On October 4, 2025, Kelly criticized former President Donald Trump’s approach to law enforcement in Chicago. She wrote: " Trump is bringing war to Chicago. He calls our city violent—yet it’s his ICE raids & National Guard that terrorize families, endanger lives, and waste taxpayer dollars. I refuse to bend the knee to a bully in the White House. Chicago deserves dignity, safety, and respect."
The following day, October 5, she commented on the status of the federal government shutdown and Republican leadership in Congress: "It’s day five of the Republican shutdown, and Speaker Johnson is not calling the House back tomorrow. @HouseDemocrats and I are prepared to reopen the government and lower healthcare costs for families. The question remains—are Republicans?"
Also on October 5, Kelly marked World Teachers’ Day by highlighting efforts of educators in her district: "On #WorldTeachersDay, I celebrate the educators shaping our future. This fall, nearly 100 Teach for America corps members step into classrooms across Greater Chicago–Northwest Indiana. Our students need dedicated teachers now more than ever."
Kelly has represented Illinois’s 2nd congressional district since winning a special election in 2013 and has consistently secured reelection with significant margins over her opponents in subsequent general elections from 2014 through 2022.
