U.S. Representative Robin Kelly has issued a series of statements on social media criticizing former President Donald Trump’s actions and expressing concern about conditions at an ICE facility. The posts, made between October 8 and October 9, 2025, also address the ongoing government shutdown and Republican leadership.

On October 8, Kelly wrote, "President Trump doesn't want to lead; he wants to be a dictator. Calling for the arrest of elected officials for doing their jobs is unAmerican and unacceptable. America doesn't have kings or dictators. I refuse to let him act like one."

Later that day, Kelly commented on reports from inside the Broadview ICE facility, stating, "Sickened to hear Trustee Muñoz’s reports from inside the Broadview ICE facility. Detainees are held in unsanitary, overcrowded cells with poor ventilation and limited access to restrooms. Meanwhile, Sec. Noem was shooting a promotional video. She treats people like props — it’s"

On October 9, Kelly addressed the ongoing government shutdown, writing, "It’s day 8 of President Trump’s Republican Shutdown. @HouseDemocrats and I are ready to work for the American people. But Republicans refuse to stand up to him, or come to the table, while Americans pay the price for their inaction."

Robin Kelly, a Democratic representative, has held her seat through multiple election cycles, securing significant victories in 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2022. Her continued electoral success demonstrates consistent support from her constituents.
