U.S. Representative Robin Kelly posted a series of messages on October 13, 2025, addressing issues ranging from the ongoing government shutdown to Indigenous Peoples’ Day and domestic violence.

In her first message of the day, Kelly criticized the current congressional impasse, stating, "This Republican shutdown is hurting families, small businesses, and communities across our nation. It’s time for House Republicans to come back to work with @HouseDemocrats to reopen the government and lower healthcare costs." (posted October 13, 2025).

Later that morning, she marked Indigenous Peoples’ Day with a call for recognition and education. Kelly wrote, "Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day! Today we honor Native American communities, their history, and their enduring contributions. Let’s take this day to acknowledge the past, educate ourselves, and celebrate Native cultures across America." (posted October 13, 2025).

In her third message of the day, Kelly addressed domestic violence, drawing attention to racial disparities in its impact. She stated, "Too many Americans live with the trauma of domestic violence — and Black women are killed at nearly triple the rate of white women. This month and every month, I stand with survivors as I fight for laws that prevent abusive partners from buying a gun. #Every1KnowsSome1" (posted October 13, 2025).

Robin Kelly has served as U.S. Representative for Illinois’s 2nd congressional district since winning a special election in 2013. She has maintained her seat through several election cycles, including victories over Thomas Lynch in 2022 by a margin of over 34 percentage points, Theresa Raborn in 2020 with nearly 79% of the vote, David Merkle in 2018 with over 81%, John Morrow in 2016 with nearly 80%, and Eric Wallace in 2014 with almost 79%.
